Africa-Press – Ghana. Mary Quaye, an elderly woman whose life’s struggles have usurped her smile for several days was all teary when her name was mentioned and offered the GHC 5000 cash support from Verna Water during the Verna Changing Lives activation at Opera Square in Accra on 27 September 2023.
This CSR project aims to better the lives of those burdened by adversity through the regular provision of prompt responses to the urgent problems faced by people on the streets of Accra.
Madam Mary Quaye’s husband abandoned her during her pregnancy which pushed her to fend for herself and her unborn child at the time.
She has sold yams for over 20 years at the Opera Square, bracing life’s hardships alone to put food on the table and put her daughter through school.
Presently, Mary seems to be at her wits end, as economic hardships and the higher cost of her daughter’s education have swallowed up her capital. Her only child faces possible expulsion from the nursing school due to her inability to settle her fees.
Madam Mary now lives on the benevolence of others to feed herself and daughter as she is saddled with debts.
She expressed her sincere gratitude to Verna Water and 3FM for coming to her rescue and prayed that the money she has received will be the turning point of her life.
Mary Quaye brings the number of beneficiaries of the Verna Accra ‘Turning Point Campaign’ to eight.
Verna Changing Lives is powered by 3FM 92.7 MHz Your Urban Lifestyle radio.
