Volta Regional Minister Lauded as most Hardworking Regional Minister

Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has described the Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, as the most hardworking Regional Minister in the country for the first quarter of the year.

He praised Mr Gunu’s exceptional leadership, dedication, and developmental drive across the Volta Region, noting that his commitment sets a shining example for other regional leaders to emulate.

Mr Ibrahim made this announcement during the Easter Thanksgiving Service of the Evangelical Universal Church (EUC), held in Ho on Monday, under the theme: “Glorifying God’s Power, Will, and Sovereignty in Our Pursuit of Nation-Building.”

Mr Ibrahim encouraged Ghanaians not to see Easter merely as a festive holiday but as a solemn reminder of the power of love, sacrifice, and selflessness as demonstrated in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

“Easter should inspire us to extend compassion, stand for justice, and love our neighbours as ourselves. These principles should guide our actions as citizens and leaders in nation-building,” he stated.

Mr Ibrahim urged religious leaders to continuously seek divine guidance in their missions and reminded them that governance, like ministry, is a divine calling that must be exercised with humility and purpose.

He also emphasised the urgent need to revive the National Sanitation Day, citing the worsening sanitation conditions in the country.

He revealed that following a directive from President Mahama, his Ministry has engaged various faith-based organisations on bringing back the sanitation initiative.

“We still struggle with open defecation, poorly managed toilet facilities, and ineffective solid waste disposal, especially in rural areas. Sanitation is both a civic and spiritual duty,” he said.

Mr Ibrahim announced that the National Sanitation Day would be relaunched on May 3, and would subsequently be observed on the first Saturday of every month.

He called on all citizens, including neighboring Togo, to partner in promoting a cleaner environment.

He added that his Ministry remained open to partnerships and dialogues focused on national development, social cohesion, and religious tolerance.

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Gunu, expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to the development of the region.

On behalf of the President and the NDC, an undisclosed cash donation was presented to support the Church’s activities.

The service concluded with prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in the Volta Region and across Ghana.
