Voter apathy is real in Ashanti region; NPP must up their game – Mussa Dankwa

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwa, has observed that voter apathy is real in the Ashanti region, the stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This, he said, was reflected in the just-ended by-election held in Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region.

To that end, he has urged the NPP to work hard to deal with the situation.

“NPP must find a way to motivate voters to come out and vote…Apathy is real in the Ashanti region,” Mussa Dankwa said on the Ghana Tonight show on Tuesday, April 30.

The NPP)candidate in the by-election held in the Ejisu Constituency won the contest after beating five other candidates to emerge the winner.

They are; Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an independent candidate with NPP antecedents, Convention People’s Party Esther Osei, Liberal Party of Ghana’s Beatrice Boakye, Freduah Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph both independent candidates.

According to the results declared by the Electoral Commission, Kwabena Boateng secured 55.79% of the total votes cast against his main contender, Kwabena Aduomi’s 43.24%

A total of 49,780 out of the expected 100,000 voters turned out.

The bye-election was necessitated by the demise of the incumbent MP, Dr John Kumah. Dr Kumah died in March after a short illness.
