Africa-Press – Ghana. Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston insists Ghana will not be carried away by their recent dominant win over Ivory Coast ahead of their crucial game against Benin.
The Ghana U17 side stamped their authority last Thursday when they faced their Ivorian counterparts in the opening game of the WAFU B championship.
Goals from Joseph Narbi (2), Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa and Mark Kagawa Mensah ensured a comfortable 5-1 victory for the hosts.
“Complacency? Oh no! It’s not in our dictionary,” Laryea reacted when asked whether his boys will be complacent against Benin.
“We have our style and that is what we hope to show. We aim to dominate the game in terms of possession and win and that’s what we will be doing on Tuesday.”
“As for the Ivory Coast game, it’s past and gone and we’ve forgotten about it. The most important game for us now is Benin and we will approach it with all the necessary seriousness,” Laryea added after his side’s final training session on Monday.
Ghana will only need to avoid defeat to top the group and anticipate their semi-final opponents.
As the tournament presents two slots for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Black Starlets are determined to reach the final and make a return to the continental showpiece which has eluded them in the past seven years.
