Africa-Press – Ghana. A total of 300 women smallholder farmers, including persons with disabilities in the Northern Region, have received certified seeds to promote sustainable crop production.

The support package, which included maize seeds, targeted farmers in two districts, Savelugu and Tolon, to enhance agricultural productivity and resilience.

Beneficiaries were drawn from 10 communities across the districts, including Savelugu, Gbanjong, Kamonaayili, Tolon, Galinkpegu, Libga, Zaazi, Bihinaayili, Nyoglo, and Gbulahgu.

The initiative was implemented by the Ghana Youth Guide, a youth-led advocacy organisation in Northern Ghana, under its flagship project dubbed: “Empowering Ghanaian Youth for Sustainable Agriculture R2C”.

The intervention was supported technically by the Danish International Human Settlements (DIB) and funded by CISU, both Denmark-based organisations.

Speaking at a brief ceremony in Savelugu to officially distribute the seeds, Mr Prince Chentiwuni Abdul-Fatawu, Executive Director of Ghana Youth Guide, said the support was part of efforts to empower young farmers, especially women with skills and resources, to adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices.

He said, “We believe that by investing in our youth, we can unlock innovative solutions to enhance productivity and ensure a more sustainable and food-secure future for all.”

He encouraged the beneficiary communities to take full advantage of the intervention to build resilience and address challenges such as poverty, hunger, and malnutrition in their areas.

The women farmers expressed gratitude to Ghana Youth Guide and its partners for the support and pledged to leverage the initiative to improve their livelihoods and contribute to national food security.
