World Cup play-off: Nigeria goalkeeper Okoye may face Ghana in Abuja - Eguavoen

Africa-Press – Ghana. Nigeria head coach Augustine Eguavoen has revealed that Maduka Okoye may be able to return for the Super Eagles’ 2022 FIFA World playoffs second leg match against Ghana in Abuja.

Okoye has been ruled out of the first leg match, which will take place on Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

He has been replaced in the squad by Enyimba shot-stopper John Noble.

But Eguavoen has stated that the Sparta Rotterdam goalie could play in the return leg next week Tuesday if he recovers in time.

“He (Okoye) has flu and will miss the first leg in Ghana,” Eguavoen said during his interaction with the media on Wednesday.

“Should he recover in time, he could be involved in the return leg in Abuja.”

Nigeria arrived in Kumasi on Thursday afternoon and will train at the Baba Yara Stadium in the evening.

The second leg encounter comes off four days’ time at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium in Abuja.
