Africa-Press – Ghana. All 47 Assembly Members present at a Special General Assembly Meeting has unanimously confirmed Mr. Yakubu Yussif, President Mahama’s nominee, as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mampong.

Mr. Yussif, a 34-year-old marketer and the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Mampong in the December 2024 elections, becomes the final appointee to complete the list of MCEs across Ghana’s 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.

Before the confirmation, the Assembly Members had held a press conference expressing frustration over the delay in nominating a new MCE, citing it as a major setback to the municipality’s development. The unanimous vote reflected their eagerness to restore leadership and progress.

The Mampong Municipal Assembly comprises 50 members, including the Member of Parliament, Mr. Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong, who serves as an ex-officio member without voting rights.

With the MCE position vacant, 48 members were eligible to vote. One government appointee, representing the Mampong Hemaa, was absent with prior permission, leaving 47 members to cast their ballots.

The confirmation process was supervised by a team from the Electoral Commission, led by Deputy Regional Directors and the Mampong Municipal Elections Officer, Mr. Kwabena Karikari.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Yussif expressed deep appreciation to President Mahama and the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to prioritise sanitation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and to work closely with Assembly Members, traditional leaders, and residents to drive inclusive and sustainable development.

Nana Akwasidai Kodua, a government appointee representing the Mampong Traditional Council, assured the MCE of the council’s support but emphasised that his performance would be closely monitored.

He urged chiefs and community members to unite behind the new MCE, setting aside political and tribal divisions to foster peace and progress.

Mr. Isham Alhassan, a Presidential Staffer who represented the Ashanti Regional Minister, conveyed President Mahama’s trust in Mr. Yussif’s ability to deliver and thanked the Assembly Members for their collective endorsement.
