Africa-Press – Ghana. More than 500 young people across the Volta Region have benefited from agricultural start-up kits and farm inputs as part of a youth empowerment initiative spearheaded by Farmer Globale, an agriculture-focused NGO, in collaboration with the Kosmos Innovation Centre.

The initiative, under the Youth Elevate Programme, was held under the theme: “Leveraging Youth Potential for Sustainable Agribusiness Growth.” The event, which took place at the Ho brought together participants from districts including Ho Municipality, Ho West, South Tongu, and North Tongu.

The beneficiaries, aged between 18 and 35, received training in key agricultural areas such as crop cultivation, livestock rearing, and aquaculture.

Mr. Fred Kukubor, Managing Partner of Farmer Globale, told that the core mission of the programme is to rebrand agriculture as a profitable and sustainable business for young people.

“Since October last year, we have trained thousands of youth across the Volta Region. Today, we provide starter kits to those who have shown dedication and commitment to kickstart their agribusiness journey,” he said.

The start-up kits included items such as Wellington boots, pesticides, cutlasses, and veterinary supplies tailored to support both crop and animal farming ventures.

Mr. Kukubor noted that over 5,000 young people have registered for the training programme, and the first batch of support recipients were drawn from Ho, Ho West, Central Tongu, and South Tongu.

He emphasised that the programme goes beyond conventional farming.

“We are training participants in value addition, agribusiness strategy, branding, and market access. It is a shared-value model that empowers youth while strengthening national food systems,” he explained.

The initiative, he said, was implemented in partnership with local assemblies, government agencies, and private service providers, with plans to expand based on community uptake and impact.

“Our long-term vision is to cultivate a new generation of agripreneurs who can feed Ghana and reduce our dependency on imports,” he added.

Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Stephen Adom, who was the guest speaker, applauded the initiative and reaffirmed agriculture as the backbone of Ghana’s economy.

“From day one of my tenure, I committed to prioritizing agriculture. This programme supports that vision perfectly. Ho has vast agricultural potential, and the youth must be central to harnessing it,” he said.

He noted that the Youth Elevate Programme aligns closely with the national Feed Ghana initiative launched by President John Dramani Mahama, which aims to increase local food production, enhance value chains, and create jobs.

“Farmer Globale’s work reinforces the goals of Feed Ghana. I commend them and their partners for this strategic and timely support,” Mr. Adom added.

He encouraged beneficiaries to use the support tools diligently to improve not only their personal livelihoods but also to contribute to the municipalities and nation’s economic growth.

Several young recipients of the start-up kits expressed their gratitude to Farmer Globale and its partners, pledging to put their training and resources to practical use to enhance food security and economic development in their communities.

The Youth Elevate Programme by Farmer Globale is not just an agricultural support effort — it is a comprehensive strategy to transform rural livelihoods, create employment, and empower youth as leaders in Ghana’s sustainable agribusiness future.
