The Cadres for Accountable Leadership (CAL) has dispatched a letter to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for immediate publication of the collated results of the 2020 general elections.
The group held a press conference on Tuesday, 23rd March 23, 2021. The pressure group which claims to be affiliated to the NDC demands the leadership of the party must account to the grassroots who work tirelessly in the interest of the party.
In their petition, CAL has given the NDC, especially the former President, John Dramani Mahama, fourteen (14) days to publish the collated results or face their wrath.
Speaking to Philip Osei Bonsu, host of the Asempa Fm’s ‘Ekosi s3n’ show, Livingstone Pay-Charlie, convener for CAL expressed the foot soldiers’ frustration at the inability of the NDC to publish their collated results of the 2016 and 2020 general elections. He insists the publication of these results will help plan ahead and spearhead structural and practical solutions for the 2024 elections.
When asked the need for the press conference instead of going through the party leadership, he said the group followed those procedures for the 2016 elections but did not get the desired results, hence this pragmatic step.
Mr. Pay-Charlie went on to outline the consequences involved in the inability of the party to publish the collated results in 14 days beginning from Wednesday, 24th March 2021. “The consequences are going to be unwelcoming. Massive protests, picketing and demonstration will take place nationwide across party offices. If left unattended, party officials who led us in the 2020 elections will be removed by hook or crook.”
Mr. Anthony Nukpenu, Accra Regional Organizer for the NDC, however, denies knowing of any such group such as the Cadres for Accountable Leadership (CAL). He believes this uproar by the group is part of the reorganization process of the party and the group will eventually fall in line if they are true loyalists of the NDC.
He, however believes the young men constituting the group are rented, and challenges them to show evidence of their membership of the NDC.
Responding to their request for the collated results, he said the results are on the Electoral Commission’s website. On the issue that that result was contested by his party’s flagbearer in court, he said the Supreme court ruled the result was authentic and had been accepted by the party.
Mr. Pay- Charlie expressed sadness over the utterances of Mr. Nukpenu. He said he hoped for intellectual discourse and not an attack on the Cadres for Accountable Leadership.
