AU delegation in town to assess Ghana’s bid to host African Continental Free Trade Area HQ

A 10-man delegation from the Africa Union (AU) is in the country to assess Ghana’s preparedness and facilities to successfully host the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat in Accra.

The delegation, led by Ambassador Rosette Nyirinkindi Katungye, AU Advisor on Regional Integration, will spend the next seven days meeting government officials and inspecting facilities to be used for the Secretariat.

Ms. Katungye speaking to the press said the AU is excited about Ghana’s willingness to host the secretariat adding that the delegation will work closely with officials to ensure that the right decision is taken.

Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who received the delegation at the Kotoka International Airport said the Secretariat will see about the creation of about 100 jobs.

Ghana faces competition from seven other countries including Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya and Senegal to host the Headquarters of the African Continental Free.
