Ghana’s Chief of Staff (CoS) Madam Frema Osei Opare has appealed to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to create a special desk to cater for the needs of women in the force.
Madam Opare made the appeal when she joined the all women contingent of the GAF in Accra, today, Friday, 9 August 2019 to climax their 60th Anniversary with a rich display of military parade.
“I take this opportunity to appeal for the creation of a special female desk within the Ghana Armed Forces to see to the exclusive female related issues to enhance the performance of those in the service as well as influence policies that will remove barriers in their advancement,” she stated.
Madam Opare further acknowledged the contribution of women to the force and called for more women to be empowered to take up more challenging roles in society.
She noted that the participation of women in conflict resolution is gaining ascendency adding that “records indicate that Ghana contributes a significant percentage of female peacekeepers that is close to the attainment of the United Nations recommended quota.”
Ms Opare advised the women in the force to live exemplary lives so that other “women and girls will look up to them as role models and be encouraged to seek opportunities in all male dominated professions.”
