Africa-Press – Guinee Bissau. The WAEMU economic growth rate will rise to 7.0 0 /0 in 2023, while inflation recorded a drop of 3.0 percentage points, congratulated the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Union, at the end of an extraordinary session held on Saturday in Bissau.

La Conférence a salué les ‘’multiples efforts déployés par les Etats membres en vue de préserver le pouvoir d’achat des populations, face au renchérissement des coûts des produits alimentaires et énergétiques’’. ‘’A cet égard, elle note avec satisfaction la décélération en 2023 du taux d’inflation qui s’établirait à 4,40/0, soit une baisse de 3,0 points de pourcentage par rapport à 2022’’, souligne le communiqué.
Il indique que la Conférence ‘’salue les actions appropriées entreprises par les Institutions Spécialisées en vue d’assurer un financement satisfaisant des économies de l’Union’’.
The Heads of State and Government decided to commit the WAEMU Commission, in conjunction with the Council of Ministers, to « structure and diligently implement » a special technical and financial support program for the WAEMU to Guinea-Bissau. The objective sought is to « strengthen the capacities of the human resources of the public administration and the productive capacities of the country », specifies the press release.
The Heads of State and Government took note of the state of progress of the process of drawing up the Prospective Vision of UEMOA by 2040, with a view to providing the Union with a tool long-term anticipation to lay the foundations for its strategic choices and priorities.
Le communiqué note qu’’’ils exhortent la Commission de I’UEMOA à mener ce processus à terme en procédant notamment, à l’évaluation de certains textes communautaires et à leur réforme, le cas échéant.
La Conférence des Chefs d’Etat et de Gouvernement souligne ‘’la nécessité pour les Etats membres de veiller à un reversement régulier du Prélèvement Communautaire de Solidarité (PCS)’’.
Elle ‘’salue la résilience des économies des Etats en dépit du contexte défavorable’’. Dans le but de ‘’renforcer leur performance’’, elle a instruit la Commission de I’UEMOA à ‘’soumettre, pour 2023, un nouveau Pacte de Convergence, de Stabilité et de Croissance’.

Regarding Mali, the Conference « decided to lift its suspension from the organs and institutions of UEMOA taken on January 9, 2022 ».
