Africa-Press – Kenya. The Azimio coalition will not recognise President William Ruto until IEBC servers are opened for an audit of the August 9 presidential results, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has said.
She said the Opposition is contended with defending Kenyans and is not seeking a share of government during the ongoing talks with Kenya Kwanza. “Do not bring an agenda that is not understandable. The agenda is the cost of living, the opening of servers and reconstitution of the IEBC.”
Karua was speaking on Friday during an interdenominational requiem service for protesters who died during the last round of Azimio protests in July. The service was held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga park in Bondo town.
Several people died during the three days of protests held between July 19 and 21. No official statistics have been released but Azimio claims at least 50 people died from police brutality.
Karua sent a direct message to the President saying despite the brutality meted out on protesters, Azimio will not stop fighting for what they deem as their right.
“And I finally want him to understand that we will not recognise him until he opens servers. He should know whoever we have now is an illegitimate president and that is why he is involved in illegitimate acts,” she said.
Azimio and Kenya Kwanza have embarked on fresh talks in a bid to resolve what the opposition has termed as five key pressing issues. They include the cost of living, audit of presidential results, reconstitution of the IEBC, stoppage of interference of opposition parties by government and equity in participation in government.
The government side has however said nothing that amounts to personal interests or that which interferes with the independence of institutions will be canvassed during the talks.
Leader of Kenya Kwanza Talks delegation Kimani Ichung’wah said on August 4 that they will only talk about the reconstitution of the IEBC Commission, implementation of two-thirds gender rule, the entrenchment of Constituency Development Fund, establishment and entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.
“Therefore, respectfully, we will not participate in any manner on any issue that undermines any arm of government or undermines any decisions that have been made thereof by any arm of government or undermine our laws and the Constitution,” Ichung’wah said.
