Africa-Press – Kenya. Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Monday hosted governors from the coalition as teams steering the fresh bipartisan talks met for the second time.
Raila hosted the county bosses at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Nairobi from the early hours in what the ODM boss termed as a great conversation.
“We had a great conversation today with governors from our coalition. We delved into pertinent issues together, establishing a common path ahead aimed towards Kenya’s progress and future,” Raila said shortly after emerging from the meeting.
The meeting was happening at the same time the talks team from Azimio was meeting their Kenya Kwanza counterparts at the Bomas of Kenya.
The fresh talks have been billed as the impetus to finding a lasting solution to the political dispute between Raila and President William Ruto.
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo who is expected to mediate the talks was, however, absent at the meeting.
It was the second time Obasanjo was missing in action having missed last Friday’s inaugural meeting where Azimio and Kenya Kwanza met to chart the way forward.
The talks come amid continued hardline stances from both sides on the agenda to be placed on the table for discussion.
Azimio has insisted on five issues of cost of living, audit of presidential results, reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), equity in inclusion in government and respect of the sovereignty of opposition parties.
Kenya Kwanza has listed reconstitution of the IEBC, implementation of two-thirds gender rule, entrenchment of the Constituency Development Fund, establishment and entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.
