Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Amputee Football head coach Abdalla ‘Viduka’ Otieno is targeting a medal at next month’s Africa Para Games to be played in Accra, Ghana.
Otieno is currently making final preparations for the continental event, where he is in camp with 25 players and who will be trimmed to 15 on Friday ahead of the September 1-11 Games.
“The team is in high spirits ahead of the Para Games and we are sure that we shall bring a medal home,” said Otieno.
The provisional team was picked during the national trials at the Eldoret Polytechnic.
Some of the players ply their trade abroad, especially in Italy, and this, Otieno said, gives him an easy time in training.
“I have professional players led by the captain Nicholas Keiyo, Brian Oroka, Mohammed Munga and Albert Mwakeya who will steer the team. The local-based players are also proving their worth to the team,” added Otieno.
Otieno said they will head to residential training camp before departing for Accrs on August 30.
Kenya are placed in Pool ‘C’ alongside Rwanda, Egypt and Angola.
“The training has been going on well as the players gel into a formidable team. We want to play as a unit in Ghana and hope that our players impress international scouts,” he said.
In Eldoret, Nairobi county emerged the winners after beating Kakamega 1-0 in the final courtesy of Sammy Kariuki’s goal.
