Revive ailing sugar sector, MP Wamboka tells Ruto

Africa-Press – Kenya. Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has asked President William Ruto to provide a solution for the ailing sugar sector during his visit of Western region this week.

The legislator on Monday said he fully supports the President’s visit to the region but he should come up with a solution for the sugar sector and announce when his administration will complete stalled projects.

He asked the President to tell the region’s leaders the plans his administration has to complete several projects including Koica water project, Musikoma-Mungatsi road, among others.

“We are aware that the head of state will tour the region this week and we shall welcome him well but what we want from him is a new sugar mill,” he said.

The President is scheduled to tour Bungoma on August 27 and 28 for interdenominational prayers at Kiwanja Ndege and the official opening of the new county assembly building.

Wamboka also called on the President to inject funds into the Nzoia Sugar Company to facilitate the payment of farmers.

“The company owes farmers a lot of money. It will be good if the President injects money to pay them,” he said.

He said the last money the company received was from former President Uhuru Kenyatta towards the end of his tenure.

The vocal MP complained that President Ruto has taken too long to visit Bungoma.

“Before we went to the elections, Ruto came here almost every week to campaign and woo voters, but immediately he won the election, he has never come back,” the MP said.

“I’m just reminding the President that we are eagerly waiting for him to come because we have many problems to tell him.”
