Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has reappointed Justin Irina as the Murang’a University of Technology chancellor.
Irina, a professor of Inorganic Chemistry previously held the position of a vice chancellor at the Moi University and chairman of the Council of Pwani University College.
According to a Gazette Notice dated October 19, Irina will now serve for five years.
He has held the position since 2017 following his appointment by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Similarly, Ruto has picked Sophia Kutiti Olesambu as the chairperson of the Mineral Rights Board.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 30 (2) (a) of the Mining Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Sophia Kutiti Olesambu to be the Chairperson of the Mineral Rights Board, for a period of three years, with effect from the 19th October 2023,” the notice reads.
In some other appointments, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has appointed Kenya National Union of Teachers secretary general Collins Oyuu to serve as a member of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority.
Also named to the agency are Kipkirui Langat, Mike Kuria, Everline Owoko and Jacqueline Mugo.
Chief Justice Martha Koome also appointed Nickson Wanjau to the Auctioneers Licensing Board for a term of three years starting October 23.
Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has appointed Timothy Ruhiu Irimu as a member of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health also for a period of three years with effect from October 19.
