Africa-Press – Kenya. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has said the country’s economy is on the mend and thus no cause for alarm.
Nyoro who is also chair of the Budget Committee in the National Assembly said the shilling has continued to gain drastically against the dollar in recent days, a strong indication of economic recovery under President William Ruto’s administration.
“With reducing inflation in the US and Britain, we are likely to see more remittances back home which will spur the economy further,” Nyoro said.
The remittances from the West, he noted, constitute 54 percent of the country’s external earnings and leverage the country’s economic growth.
The Kiharu MP was speaking Saturday during the inauguration of Nyamiobo Catholic Parish in Bonchari, in Kisii.
Among those who attended the function were David Kiplangat (MP Soi) Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango) and Charles Onchoke, host MP.
Others were Omingo Magara and Charles Onkendi who unsuccessfully vied for the Senatorial seat and Bonchari parliamentary seat respectively in the last poll.
Hundreds of Catholic faithful from across the county also attended the function.
Nyoro and Onchoke separately lauded the Catholic church for its pivotal role in complementing the government efforts in education.
Nyoro said education remains a central role of the government and thus the reason for the continued upscaling of funds from the Treasury to schools.
Already the government has provided funds to help in the employment of junior secondary school teachers as a result.
At least Sh26.3 billion has been set aside to help in the absorption of the JSS teachers into permanent and pensionable schemes.
An additional 26,000 teachers would also be employed to address the shortage of staff in the JSS schools.
MP Kiplangat projected a further slash of fuel prices as the economy roars back.
“Let’s all support the government in its effort to make things work,” he told the congregants.
MP Mogaka on his part said the impeachment of Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda was a joke gone bad.
“As a people, we must try to exhaust all the avenues, and hold talks with each other instead of parading ourselves out there the way we did,” stated Mogaka.
Politician Onkendi asked the government to rethink the planned decommissioning of the Suneka airstrip.
He also asked where the Sh2 billion the government had allocated for its construction went.
Omingo Magara asked the residents to consider him for the Senate seat when the country goes to polls in 2027.
There were light moments as police and church orderlies were forced to drive away two drunk worshippers as the function went on.
