Africa-Press – Kenya. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi outlined Kenya’s foreign policy priorities which he said include crafting and deepening diplomatic ties that will contribute to addressing domestic policy demands.
Mudavadi, who is also the CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, told a public forum that invigorating economic diplomacy and expanding international cooperation are high on the foreign policy priority list.
“Deepening and expanding regional integration to promote the African Continental Free Trade Area objectives, contributing to regional stability to accelerate economic development are policy priorities,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi said championing climate justice and equitable response to pandemics, being at the frontline of technological diplomacy, and diversifying transnational employment opportunities for citizens will drive Kenya’s foreign policy.
“Elevating globally relevant Pan-Africanism, advancing global reforms in multilateral financial and socio-economic organizations and promoting the equitable application of international law are key priorities,” Mudavadi said at a public lecture on Kenya’s grand strategy at USIU on Thursday.
The CS noted that economic diplomacy tools will be deployed to ramp up the Bottom-up Transformation Economic Agenda.
He said the Kenya Kwanza administration has placed a premium on global health diplomacy that has culminated in diplomatic agreements aimed at elevating Kenya’s health sector.
The administration, he said, has also paid attention to cultural diplomacy especially sports and creative arts meant to diversify global opportunities for Kenyan youths.
Musalia said Kenya will pay attention to diaspora diplomacy.
“Diaspora engagement has been invigorated to contribute to Kenya’s national development agenda.”
Mudavadi said Diaspora are cultural and economic ambassadors.
