Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto on Wednesday hosted a delegation of political leaders from the Gusii region at State House, Nairobi, led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the national government and regional leadership to accelerate development projects in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
Speaking after the meeting, the President outlined transformative investments being rolled out in both counties, describing them as part of a historic opportunity to spread prosperity across the country.
“We have before us a rare and historic opportunity to make every part of our country truly prosperous,” he said.
Ruto said the government’s targeted investments in housing, infrastructure, and energy are aimed at achieving inclusive national prosperity.
In Kisii, he highlighted plans for 15,000 affordable housing units valued at Sh30 billion, Sh2.5 billion worth of modern student hostels, and four new markets estimated at Sh2.4 billion.
In Nyamira, the government will implement similar projects, including 7,000 housing units, student hostels, and three modern markets worth more than Sh16 billion, designed to boost trade and spur economic growth.
Additionally, more than 32,000 households across the two counties will be connected to reliable electricity, a move expected to unlock local commerce, support industrial growth, and improve livelihoods.
The President emphasised the importance of inclusive development and the role of local leadership in ensuring government projects benefit communities at the grassroots.
Also present were ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, Cabinet Secretary Ogamba Migosi, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, among others.
The State House meeting was seen as a renewed commitment to regional development and a unified approach to addressing the needs of the Gusii community.
