UDA Holds First 2026 NEC Meeting to Focus on Elections

Africa-Press – Kenya. The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held its first meeting of 2026 on Friday, outlining key organisational and political priorities for the year, with a focus on upcoming grassroots elections and by-elections.

The meeting, held at the party’s headquarters, was co-chaired by Second Deputy Party Leader and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, and Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan. It brought together senior party officials and elected leaders to discuss the party’s preparedness for internal democratic processes and forthcoming electoral contests.

A major item on the agenda was the party’s grassroots elections, scheduled for January 10, 2026, across 20 counties.

The NEC reviewed logistical, administrative, and mobilisation arrangements to ensure that the exercise is conducted smoothly and transparently.

National Elections Board (NEB) Chairman Anthony Mwaura briefed members on the level of preparedness, highlighting measures to ensure credibility, inclusivity, and adherence to the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

Further updates were provided by the Directorate of Elections through Deputy Executive Director Higgins Mbugua.

According to a statement issued by the party, Mbugua said: “We have made significant progress in registration ahead of the grassroots elections, and all measures are in place to ensure a credible and inclusive process across the counties.”

The NEC also reviewed progress across counties earmarked for the elections, emphasising the strengthening of grassroots structures as part of the party’s long-term political strategy.

The meeting was attended by key party leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who chairs the UDA Governors Caucus, National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi, National Organising Secretary Vincent Kawaya, and Executive Director Nicodemus Bore.

Beyond internal elections, the NEC discussed by-elections scheduled for February 26, 2026. Members expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, citing growing grassroots support and organisational capacity nationwide.

Party leaders underscored the importance of unity, discipline, and adherence to democratic principles as UDA prepares for an intensive electoral calendar.

The statement noted that strong grassroots structures and credible internal processes are critical to consolidating the party’s national position.

Officials encouraged active participation in the upcoming exercises as the party positions itself for continued political engagement and representation in future national contests.
