Africa-Press – Kenya. Over 20 masters swimmers will represent Team Kenya at South Africa’s National Masters Swimming Championships scheduled for March 18–21.
Team captain Peter Nduati said the swimmers are training five times a week as they prepare for the three-day competition, where they will face established international teams.
“We are training hard and have come a long way over the past two years, competing in various regional and international championships,” Nduati said. “This event in South Africa allows us to showcase our talent.
He noted that the next month will be crucial in sharpening technique, building endurance and strengthening team chemistry.
“We have a month to intensify preparations and be in good shape for a demanding championship where we aspire to do well,” he said. The team received a boost after NCBA committed Sh300,000 towards their upkeep, easing the financial burden associated with international competition.
Nduati said the sponsorship will help ensure the swimmers are well-equipped and able to compete with confidence, adding that NCBA has now supported masters athletes for the second consecutive year.
Kenya Aquatics’ technical director Omar Omari praised the sponsorship, saying masters swimming in Kenya continues to grow steadily due to committed athletes and supportive stakeholders who have kept the sport active and visible.
NCBA Group’s marketing, communication and citizenship director, Nelly Wainaina, said the bank’s support aligns with its corporate social responsibility focus on wellness, healthy living and community development.
She added that NCBA remains open to working with swimming and other sports communities as it continues to support initiatives that create impact beyond competition.
