Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has onboarded more than 500 fuel stations onto the eTIMS (Electronic Tax Invoice Management System) fuel module following the implementation rollout in December 2025.

The onboarded stations represent approximately 16% of fuel stations nationwide.

The module will integrate fuel stations into the eTIMS system and ensure that all fuel stations issue receipts to customers as proof of purchase.

The implementation of the new system reflects KRA’s commitment to building a modern, digital, and efficient tax administration aimed at strengthening compliance across the fuel sector in Kenya.

The module will enhance transaction visibility, promote accurate declarations, and ensure seamless transmission of sales data for taxation and compliance purposes within the sector.

Speaking during the launch, Deputy Commissioner, Large Taxpayers’ Office, Mr. Ezekiel Obura said that revenue within the sector is expected to double after the full rollout of the module.

He urged customers to embrace the culture of asking for receipts after purchasing fuel. He further urged fuel stations that have not onboarded to do so to avoid penalties related to non-compliance.

Prior to the rollout, the Authority piloted the module in selected fuel stations between September and December 2024 to test technical integration, gather operational feedback, and strengthen compliance frameworks ahead of full-scale implementation.

KRA subsequently commenced nationwide onboarding in January 2025. Although the initial onboarding period ended on 30th June 2025, stakeholders in the sector requested additional time to comply. The Authority therefore extended the onboarding deadline to December 2025.

Speaking at the event, Chief Manager, eTIMS Office, Ms. Hakamba Wangwae, emphasized that the module is part of KRA’s strategies to simplify its processes through digital platforms.

“The eTIMS Fuel Stations Module is a game changer for tax compliance and transparency. It simplifies the tax process for taxpayers and enhances oversight for the authority, which is an initiative that supports Kenya’s broader goal of a fully digital, efficient, and accountable tax system,” said Hakamba Wangwae, Chief Manager, eTIMS.

The eTIMS receipt at fuel stations is issued immediately upon request at the point of sale and can be generated for both individual motorists and businesses.

This electronic invoice is transmitted in real time to the Kenya Revenue Authority’s system, ensuring that every fuel purchase is properly recorded and can be used as proof of expenditure in accounting records, tax filings, and claims for business deductions.
