Africa-Press – Kenya. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has expressed optimism that projects initiated by President William Ruto in the Western region will be completed before the next general election.
Speaking to congregants at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Bulimbo, Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County, Wetang’ula assured residents of the Western region that funds for the completion of development projects initiated by President Ruto will be factored into the national budget.
“I am calling upon all MPs from this region to utilise the current budget-making process to ensure resources are set aside to complete these projects, since their success depends on adequate budgetary allocations,” he said.
Among the key projects highlighted were the revival of Mumias and Nzoia sugar factories, the tarmacking of roads, the construction of markets, and the development of hostels in public institutions under the Affordable Housing Programme.
The Speaker said President Ruto had revived several development initiatives that were started by previous regimes but later stalled, adding that the President has also initiated new projects as part of his commitment to transforming Western Kenya.
“The President came to Mumias when the sugar factory had shut down and workers had returned home without their dues. He has since revived the mill, and it is now back on track,” he said.
He urged residents to rally behind Ruto’s bid for a second term. Wetang’ula also cautioned the youth against being incited into political violence, warning that involvement in chaos undermines their future prospects.
“Youths should desist from being paid to cause mayhem at political meetings. They should instead demand meaningful engagement and opportunities that secure their future,” he said.
Wetang’ula was accompanied by President Ruto’s private aide Farouk Kibet, Senate Majority Whip Haroun Cheruiyot, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe, and his Matungu counterpart Oscar Nabulindo, who supported the President’s re-election.
Kibet urged the Luhya community to unite in support of Ruto’s second-term bid, saying the President has prioritised the region’s development.
“The President has the interests of the Mulembe nation at heart. That is why he has initiated projects that previous administrations did not implement in this region,” he said.
“Support his second-term bid, and you will have the opportunity to take over leadership after his retirement,” he added.
Cheruiyot said the Kenya Kwanza administration has set a record by employing more than 100,000 teachers in less than three years.
“President Ruto has employed more teachers than his four predecessors. Teachers have every reason to support his second-term bid,” said the Kericho Senator.
Barasa said that construction works on the stalled Kakamega Level Six Hospital had resumed following intervention by President Ruto.
