Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said he will not be distracted by political noise, declaring that his focus remains on delivering development projects across the country as the government accelerates stalled infrastructure works.
Speaking during an inspection of the Gachoka-Gachuriri road in Mbeere South, Embu County, Kindiki said the administration has stabilised the economy and revived road projects that had stalled since 2020.
“The economy has stabilised, and we have revived all the roads that stalled since 2020,” he said.
The Deputy President assured residents that the tarmacking of the Gachoka-Gachuriri road will be completed on schedule.
“The tarmacking of the road from Gachoka to Gachuriri in Mbeere South will be completed on time, and the President will be here to open it. I give my assurance on this,” he said.
Kindiki noted that the government had resolved long-standing payment challenges that had forced contractors to abandon projects across the country.
“We have settled Sh177 billion owed to contractors. Going forward, we will pay them on time because we have enough money to complete all the 6,000 kilometres of ongoing roads and to commence other projects,” he said.
He added that the renewed financing had enabled contractors to return to sites, paving the way for faster completion of key infrastructure.
“This year, you are going to see a lot of development and transformation across the country. All roads that stalled since 2020 have been revived. We have paid all the contractors who had abandoned sites and are now back on site,” Kindiki said.
The DP said the government would rely on completed projects rather than political rhetoric when seeking the support of Kenyans.
“We will showcase what we have done for wananchi when it is time for campaigns. We will have tangible projects to defend our tenure in office, including roads, water projects, increased electricity connection and modern markets. This will be our scorecard,” he said.
He criticised the opposition, saying some leaders who previously held senior positions lacked a development record.
“Our opponents have occupied powerful positions before and they have nothing to show for their time in office. They will have a difficult time with wananchi,” he said.
Kindiki emphasised that his priority remains service delivery rather than engaging in political exchanges.
“We are busy working for the people. We cannot be compared with our opponents, who have nothing to do but engage in idle talk,” he said.
“I am focused because at the right time I will account for my time in office. I want my work to speak for me when the time comes. This year, we will be fully focused on delivering development projects.”
Beyond roads, the DP said the government is implementing additional projects in Embu County, including the construction of 12 modern markets and fast-tracking the completion of the Kiambere and Kamburu water projects.
He said the initiatives are part of a broader plan to accelerate service delivery and improve livelihoods, adding that the administration remains committed to transforming infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities across the country.
