Africa-Press – Kenya. Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced Vincent Kibet as the party’s candidate in the upcoming Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election.
Speaking during an endorsement ceremony at the party headquarters on Tuesday, Gachagua formally handed the certificate to Kibet and urged residents to rally behind him.
“Let us give him his certificate. Go and support him,” Gachagua said.
The former deputy president described Kibet as a youthful and capable leader, expressing confidence that he would carry forward the legacy of the late area MP Johana Ng’eno. He noted that the 37-year-old aspirant, a former chief, enjoys grassroots support and has demonstrated leadership qualities admired by the community.
“I have listened to him. He has the spirit of the late Ng’eno and the courage to lead. I have told him they will try to intimidate him, but he should not be afraid,” Gachagua said.
He cautioned the candidate against political manipulation, warning that attempts could be made to influence him through financial inducements. “You will be offered money, even millions, but do not sell your community. He has assured me he will not accept such offers in front of the elders,” he said.
Gachagua expressed optimism that Kibet would clinch the seat, declaring him the likely next Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr and potentially the first elected MP under the DCP banner.
“I know the next MP of Emurua Dikirr is Vincent Kibet Rotich, and he will be the first DCP MP in Kenya. This will be a tough contest, but you are not cowards. Go door to door and campaign,” he said.
The DCP leader also commended local elders for working to unify leaders in the constituency, saying their efforts would strengthen the campaign. “I am grateful to the elders for bringing leaders together so that you can speak with one voice,” he said.
He urged the campaign team to finalise their strategy in an upcoming meeting and assured them of his readiness to join the campaigns on the ground. “I hear you have a meeting tomorrow. Put everything in order, and once you are ready, I am ready. Call me and tell me when to come,” Gachagua said.
The Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of area MP Johana Ng’eno in February 2026. Ng’eno died in a helicopter crash that also killed five others. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has scheduled the by-election for May 14, 2026.
