Nzioka Kaloki Bullish After Road to Somabay Finale

Africa-Press – Kenya. Colin Nzioka and Collins Kaloki expressed confidence after booking their slots in the Road to Somabay national grand finale, highlighting the competitive edge of the Machakos leg and the opportunity it presents on the international stage.

Nzioka said consistency would be key heading into the next phase, noting the level of competition had pushed players to raise their game. Kaloki echoed the sentiment, pointing to the growing stature of the series and the motivation that comes with a chance to compete beyond Kenya.

In Division B, Wickliffe Musili, who emerged as the overall winner with 40 points, described his round as one of his most composed performances, crediting focus and course management for the result.

Augustine Mboya, the other qualifier, said securing a place in the finale was a major boost and a reflection of the improving standards in the amateur circuit. The quartet qualified at Machakos Golf Club, as the nationwide series gathered pace following its opening leg at Limuru Country Club.

The Road to Somabay series is structured as a multi-leg circuit, with each stop producing four qualifiers for the grand finale later this year, where places at the Somabay World Cup Amateur Golf Tournament will be up for grabs.

Somabay World Cup official Collins Were underscored the broader impact of the initiative. “The intention is to create opportunities for players while also contributing to tourism and the growth of the sport locally.

We are seeing encouraging participation, which reflects the potential within the amateur game,” he said. He emphasised the importance of partnerships in sustaining the series.

“Having a financial partner on board strengthens the structure of the competition and supports its long-term objectives.

”The series is backed by Commercial International Bank (CIB), whose involvement is expected to enhance its profile and support talent development.

“This collaboration provides an opportunity to support talent development while strengthening the trade relationship between Kenya and Egypt through golf, with the bank at the middle of it,” said CIB Marketing and Communications Lead Vivian Kiberenge. The next legs head to Ruiru Sports Club, Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club and Great Rift Valley Lodge as the race for qualification intensifies.
