Africa-Press – Kenya. The relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto deteriorated on Saturday with the arrest of a Turkish investor at Wilson Airport.
Harun Aydin, a Turkish national who the DP esteemed as a polished investor, was arrested soon after he landed at the airport from Uganda.
The arrest comes in the wake of Ruto’s blockage from travelling to the neighbouring country and the tough-talking DP trashing the president’s track record in what lifted the lid on their worsening relations.
The controversial businessman who has been linked to terrorism was amongst the six individuals who were scheduled to accompany Ruto to Uganda.
However, the DP was blocked from travelling for lacking clearance from his boss in what Ruto and his allies termed as part of the wider plot to humiliate and reduce him to a no one.
“What happened were the efforts to undermine me and make me look useless in government and to show me that there are people with powers. The events are about supremacy in government,” Ruto said in an interview on Inooro FM on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the country’s second in command defended Aydin as a reputable businessman whom he helped secure a Sh15 billion loan to set up a business in Uganda.
The following day, on Thursday, boldly attacked the President’s administration, directly assailing of running the economy, condemning millions to poverty and borrowing to unprecedented levels.
“They have mismanaged the economy, leading to stockpiling of public debt to unprecedented levels, occasioning the current crisis,” Ruto, who initially defended Jubilee’s appetite for debt, said on Thursday in the company of a battalion of MPs whom they said numbered 135 at his Karen home.
Uhuru and Ruto have bitterly fallen out and the unfolding revelations can only be seen to final nails on the coffin.
In February, the President said he would hand over power to a thief – sentiments interpreted as directed at the DP who has been banking on boss endorsement to succeed him.
