Mutyambai Names New Police Spokesperson

Africa-PressKenya. Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai on Tuesday, August 17, named Bruno Isohi Shioso as the new Spokesperson for the National Police Service.

The appointment comes after the previous spokesperson, Charles Owino, was transferred to Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons in May.

Isohi will take over the role immediately, after jetting in from New York in the United States, where he was on a secondment mission for the United Nations.

At the UN, Isohi held the position of team leader of the Serious and Organized Crime Team (SOC Team) which aims to address transnational threats, including serious and organized crime, corruption, and violent extremism.

The new police spokesperson is a seasoned detective who previously worked as the deputy head of the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit.

Isohi also worked as the personal assistant to the former Director of Criminal Investigations boss, Muhoro Ndegwa.

Spokesman Isohi is the third spokesperson at the National Police Service under the new dispensation of 2012, which saw the Kenya Police and Administration Police Service merge under one command of the Inspector General of Police.

In 2015, the new Police Spokesperson was one of the five officers appointed to investigate the Garissa University College terror attack and provide a detailed report on the findings.

His appointment comes at a time when the NPS is facing tremendous pressure for its conduct.

The image of the NPS has also been questioned, which is one of the challenges Isohi is expected to solve.

The National Police Service has recently been under scrutiny, following its handling of the recent killing of the two Kianjokoma brothers in Embu.

Isohi takes over the spokesmanship of the service, whose past spokespersons include, Jasper Ombati, Erick Kiraithe, Gatiri Mboroki, and most recently, Charles Owino, who announced his intentions to vie for Governor in Siaya County.
