Migori keeper Ogweno vows to switch off Coast Stima

Africa-PressKenya. Migori Youth custodian Gideon Ogweno will be keen to keep a clean sheet as he leads his teammates in the crucial hunt for maximum points against Coast Stima at Awendo Green Stadium this afternoon.

The Nyanza-based side experienced a stuttering start to the National Super League season but have since found their footing again in the cutthroat competition whose winner and runner-up will gain automatic promotion to the Kenyan Premier League next season.

“We are definitely ready for Friday’s encounter. We need more points to improve our position in the table and I believe we have trained well enough to register a positive result,” said Ogweno.

The custodian’s exceptional form in the previous season helped the side secure a top-five finish and he now hopes they will grab each and every point from their remaining encounters to move into the top 10.

Migori head into the encounter as favourites given their healthier status in the league, where they are placed 15th with 37 points while Stima lie 18th with 34.

“We definitely have what it takes to turn things around and fire ourselves into the top ten,” said Ogweno.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on leaders Talanta, who host Soy United at GEMS Cambridge on Sunday afternoon.

The Communications Authority of Kenya-sponsored side have stamped authority and made a good impression of themselves so far. They have amassed 61 points that place them at the summit of the log ahead of their closest rivals, Fortune Sacco who have 57.

Their impressive form notwithstanding, coach Ken Kenyatta must urge his charges to sharpen their claws which they failed to jut out against Kenya Police share the spoils in a barren draw on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Soy will look to disentangle themselves from the jaws of relegation given they remain rooted in the second from bottom with 28 points. The last three teams face imminent demotion to the lower tier at the close of business.

Kibera Black Stars head to Moi Stadium, Kisumu for a date with hosts Kisumu All-stars. Kibera are fourth on the log with 52 points while All Stars are seventh with 49. The city lads are fighting tooth and nail for a possible third place, a promotion/ relegation playoff slot against KPL side Vihiga United.

APS Bomet welcome Vihiga Bullets at Bomet Stadium this afternoon. APS are eighth with 46 points while Vihiga are fifth with 51.

Gusii and Silibwet will settle scores at Awendo Green Stadium after the Migori versus Coast Stima tie. Gusii are 16th with 36 points while Silibwet are 14th with 39.

Modern Coast Rangers host MCF at Serani Grounds on Sunday. Rangers are 12th with 40 points while MCF are 11th with 41.
