Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Morans will play Senegal in a friendly game before they start their FIBA AfroBasket 2021 championships in Kigali, Rwanda on Tuesday.
Assistant coach Sadat Gaya said the team is in high spirits ahead of the tournament after arriving in the Rwandese capital on Saturday morning — all set for the two-week festival.
He said the friendly against Senegal, who beat Kenya twice in their qualifiers, will help fine-tune the team for their three Group ‘C’ preliminary round matches.
Morans had played a friendly match against the national league champions Ulinzi Warriors at Nyayo National Stadium winning by a close 75-72 margin.
Kenya will be returning to the continental championship for the first time in nearly three decades and have vowed to give a good account of themselves.
The 16 team continental festival that runs between August 24 and September 5 at the iconic Kigali Arena, will see the top five nations book their tickets to the world championships.
Kenya last played in this continental championship in 1993 in Nairobi by virtue of being the host nation where they finished fourth.
Morans will open their campaign in against Cote d’Ivoire, play Nigeria two days later before winding their preliminary round ties against Mali.
