Gecheo tips Kenya to host more big events in future

Africa-PressKenya. Cecafa secretary general, Auka Gacheo is confident of pulling off a successful Champion League qualifiers event if the country’s record of hosting major events in the recent past is anything to go by.

The country is fresh from not only hosting a successful World Under-20 Championship at Moi Stadium, Kasarani but also topping the world in the show with eight gold, one silver and seven bronze. The country also hosted a successful WRC Safari Rally in June.

Auka said going by the country’s record in hosting major events, Kenya will always be given priority to organise big events.

“As a country, we are in a unique position to host the East and Central Africa region qualifiers. We have hosted major back-to-back events recently and it speaks volumes of our status. We have gained global attention with the successful manner Kenya organised the events. It is perfectly in our favour to be considered for major assignments in future,” Gecheo said.

Commenting on the status of Stadia he said: “We have assessed both Nyayo and Kasarani stadia and they are in perfect condition to host the matches. We are satisfied with all the preparations together with all the Covid protocols put in place.”

He, however, emphasised that the event will be a spectator-free competition and the matches will be streamlined live.

“All participants are expected to have negative Covid test result. This will be done by the two doctors send by Caf while the regulations set by FKF, the Kenyan government and of course, Caf will be followed to the letter.

FKF vice president Doris Petra intimated that she was happy to see ladies being granted equal opportunities with their male counterparts.
