Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Vihiga Queens coach Alex Alumira says he is ready for the new challenge as he prepares to join Tanzania’s Tiger Queens Sports Academy.
Alumira is officially expected to join his new employers immediately after the ongoing Cecafa Club Champions qualifiers.
He is expected to arrive at his new base on September 13 having penned a five-year deal to serve the club as manager.
The move puts an end to speculations that he was set to join Simba Queens besides another Moroccan side that had registered interest.
The three-time title winner with Vihiga Queens is impressed with the vision of his new club and described the deal as a hard to turn down chance.
Tiger Sports managing director, Potin Pello was in the country over the weekend to seal the deal with Alumira.
” The long term vision is to win titles but the short term is about creating a competitive environment for the team to feature in the Tanzania Premier League next season,” said the former Mudete FC coach.
He added: “The challenge of fighting relegation or coaching a team that has gained promotion is what I like most. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and have a feel of what other managers go through in dealing with small teams.”
He continued: “There was every chance of joining Simba as they even offered me a better package than what I earned at Vihiga. Simba are already a brand but I want to create my own brand. I want to pick this team that people think are candidate of relegation so that we can finish among the top four in the first season.”
Tiger Queens are full of internationals with players from Zambia, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya already in their books. The team has already signed players from Nakuru West Queens and Kitale’s Royal Starlets as Alumira prepares for a new life outside Kenya.
“We are planning for more signings and the Cecafa tournament is an avenue to tap more talent. I need a stable system where we will have cover in terms of nurturing talent from grassroots clubs and moulding them to become future stars”.
Alumira leaves Vihiga Queen better than he found them. Vihiga are his home and he does not rule out a return to the club in future.
“I hope one day return to Vihiga Queens. My players aren’t surprised with my decision because I had prepared them. The team will forever remain in my heart,” he quipped.
