Africa-PressKenya. A double from Janet Bundi and a solo strike from Jentrix Shikangwa, was all that Vihiga Queens needed to advance to the final of the FKF Women’s Cup following their 3-0 win over Kayole Starlets at Ruaraka grounds.

Vihiga will play Ulinzi Starlets in the final scheduled for October 2, after the soldiers managed a 4-2 win against Kisumu All Starlets

Right-winger Bundi, who can also play as a wingback, broke the deadlock in the second minute before the Shikangwa doubled the lead in the 23rd minute as the recently crowned Cecafa club champions took their two-goal caution into the breather.

Five minutes from the re-start, Bundi put the result to rest with a third goal as Kayole could not find a way out against their superior opposition.

Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamu said Kayole’s sluggishness in execution worked in favour of his charges.

“Kayole were very slow and this gave us the edge and I couldn’t ask anything better than the win.”

Joshua Sakwa acknowledged Kayole did not play according to instructions in the first half with his depleted squad unable to match the former champions’ quality.

“Our plan was not to concede a goal in the first 15 minutes but a concentration lapse saw the team give away an easy goal even before we had organised ourselves. It really killed the morale and after they got a second, it was always going to be tough to bounce back.”

“I only had two players on the bench. Though they brought in fresh energy, we were short of options but the second half was better.

The new season kicks off on October 30 and Sakwa believes the remaining time will be used to correct their weaknesses in order to have a fruitful season.

“We have seen the potential of this team. With a few tactical tweaks and improvement in defense we can have a good season.”
