Africa-Press – Kenya. A Facebook post claiming that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and her husband had fallen out over her decision to join United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is false and misleading.
The post by Peter Mwangi pmk dated Tuesday, October 26, alleged that lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo had vowed not to support UDA.
“Due to ideological differences, I can’t join UDA leave alone supporting Ruto. In our family of 7, ONLY HE Ann Waiguru(my wife) supports Ruto. Joining Ruto’ UDA was her personal decision, and not the position of our family….” the post which attracted 52 comments and 12 shares read.
A similar Facebook post was shared by Mugambi Zachary. It read “Due to ideological differences and as a matter of principle, I can’t join UDA leave alone supporting Ruto. In my family of 7, only my wife Ann Waiguru supports Ruto – Lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo.”
This claim was widely shared on Facebook, by other users and groups too.
Speaking to this author, Waiganjo, refuted the statement and reiterated his support for Waiguru who abandoned Jubilee for UDA.
“Of course it’s not true. I support her 110 per cent.
“That is her prerogative. Respect demands that I support her,“ he stated.
Waiguru, while switching sides, stated that she consulted Kirinyaga residents and close allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta too.
“I asked for wisdom and I think I have listened. I have checked with members who are sitting here and I have even checked with people who are still on the other side.
“I have asked if it would amount to betrayal if I moved but the message I have been given is that in politics, you must be very careful to stay relevant,” Waiguru explained while meeting Deputy President William Ruto at Karen.
Reports claiming that Waiganjo did not support Waiguru and spoke against her decision are, therefore, false and misleading.
