Africa-Press – Kenya. The youth in Kenya Kwanza have expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will clear the coalition from any wrongdoing.

National youth leader Kariuki Ngunjiri said claims by rival Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga that the election was rigged shocked them.

“When we hear that elections were rigged, we get surprised because we were on the ground. All we can say is that the truth will set everyone free,” Ngunjiri said.

Speaking to the Star on phone, Ngunjiri added that they are confident justice will prevail at the Supreme Court.

“We played it clean and this will be proved at the court of law,” he stated.

Deputy President William Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9 election on Monday but Azimio has protested the election results.

Azimio presidential campaign chairman Ndiritu Muriithi has said he is certain the court will overturn the declaration of Ruto as President-elect.

Azimio has cited instances such as mismatch in votes cast and voter turnout, and disagreement among IEBC commissioners.

A total of nine presidential election petitions were received by the Supreme Court on Monday, which was the last day to challenge the outcome of the poll.

On Tuesday, Ngunjiri asked the youth to be patient and calm as they await the verdict of the court on September 5.

“We have one more hurdle which we will overcome. After that, the promises outlined in the Kenya Kwanza youth charter will be fulfilled. We are praying that justice will be done,” he added.

He asked the young people who are supporting Ruto to remain confident they will triumph.
