Africa-Press – Kenya. National soccer champions St Anthony’s Kitale hope to defend their title when they host the Trans Nzoia County Secondary School Games this weekend.

The games come after a two-week break occasioned by the country’s general elections.

After returning to the limelight in 2019, the Kitale-based school hopes to capitalise on home advantage to secure the sole slot for the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) region championships that will be held in Nakuru next weekend.

Team manager Daniel Oronje said: “As a school, we have been preparing well for the title defence because this is a sporting school and we need to do our best.”

Oronje said they have been featuring in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) county league under the name Solidarity Boys, as a way of maintaining their fitness.

The school has been pooled alongside Sabwani and St Michael Top Station in Pool ‘B’ while Pool ‘A’ has Goseta and Mukuyu and Japata.

St Anthony are both hockey and soccer champions and will be seeking to defend both titles. According to the program, soccer will be played at St Anthony’s Kitale, hockey at St Joseph’s, basketball at the Mukuyu school and rugby at the Equip College.

“As the hosts in soccer, it will be a privilege for us to use home advantage to dominate though it will not be easy. Each school has been training and preparing for the games despite coronavirus affecting the school sports calendar,” he added.
