Africa-Press – Kenya. Kirinyaga county governor Ann Waiguru has called on her political rivals to now join hands with her administration in a bid to ensure the county gets development.
Speaking shortly after being sworn into office for her second term, Waiguru underscored the importance of the promotion and existence of peace and called on her competitors to rise above politics and do what is best for the people.
She decried that the county is well-known for being in a political mood which she said is not healthy for development.
She urged her competitors to put politics aside over the next five years in order to let her administration serve the people in peace as her name shall not be on the ballot as county governor come 2027.
“Kirinyaga is well known for being in a political mood throughout. I want to now challenge my competitors and the residents at large to put politics aside, roll our sleeves and get down to work. The constitution does not allow me to vie as governor in 2027, therefore the residents will decide who they will elect to succeed me.”
Waiguru’s remarks come days after her closest political rival Wangui Ngirici said she would be moving to court to file a petition to overturn Waiguru’s victory.
Speaking in a fully packed Kamiigua grounds in Kutus, Waiguru exuded confidence that the IEBC’s decision to declare William Ruto as the duly elected president will be upheld.
While thanking the residents for their overwhelming support for a Ruto -Gachagua candidacy, she affirmed her commitment to joining hands with a Kenya Kwanza administration to better the lives of the residents.
“You will not regret your decision to support UDA and overwhelmingly vote for our president-elect William Ruto and his deputy-elect Rigathi Gachagua,” she said.
“We remain confident that the supreme court will uphold the IEBC ‘s decision. My administration will work closely with the national government to ensure that our county becomes a partaker of the Kenya Kwanza administration.”
The county chief pledged to continue with her track record under the ‘Wira Warie’ (let the work speak for itself) development plan.
This is among others the expansion of the Wezesha empowerment agricultural programme, improvement of the health sector by finalizing the Kerugoya level 5 hospital, upgrading and elevation to level 4 of the Kianyaga and Kimbimbi hospital.
In addition, she said her administration would fully automate the running of the hospital through the hospital information management system.
In other sectors, she said, her administration will be committed to transforming Infrastructure, land, education and trade.
Waiguru said she will put in place a robust cabinet team that will help her achieve her manifesto.
Local leaders present pledged to work with Governor Waiguru’s administration.
Led by senator-elect Kamau Murango the leaders challenged the people to rise above flimsy political rhetorics and get to work.
Murango said that his office will be fully involved in supporting Waiguru’s government as far as the delivery of services is concerned.
