Impunity must be punished! Orengo says in final submission

Africa-Press – Kenya. Raila Odinga and Martha Karua’s lawyer James Orengo has asked the Supreme Court not to let what happened at the IEBC go unpunished.

Speaking during his final submission during the hearing of the presidential election petition, Orengo said the apex court is the protector of the Constitution of Kenya.

He said if the court does not intervene, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will remain highly divided.

“As defenders and protectors of this constitution, you, with respect, cannot allow what has happened at IEBC to go without some action.

“Impunity must be punished and impunity unpunished breeds arrogance and arrogance leads to arbitrary abuse of power,” Orengo said on Friday.

September 2, is the final day of submissions by all parties as the Supreme Court judges are expected to retreat to make the final judgment on the petition challenging William Ruto’s win in the August 9 polls.

The seven judges are expected to give their verdicts on September 5, which is the last day of the set constitutional timelines.
