Africa-Press – Kenya. A section of Azimio allied politicians have taken court’s decision to uphold President-elect William Ruto’s win in stride saying they’re ready to play the role of the Opposition.

Among them is Narok senator-elect Ledama Olekina who said shortly after Supreme Court’s verdict that they fought a good fight despite the loss.

“Accuse me of failing but I will never allow you to accuse me of not trying …We did our best,” Ledama said.

“Now, let the official opposition begin, I am in and will do my job diligently. Twende Kazi,” he added.

Ledama is one of the most outspoken leaders in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition and was vibrant at agitating for the nullification of the August 9 polls.

On August 15 shortly before Ruto was declared winner of the presidential contest, Ledama was at the forefront in trying to prevent IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati from announcing the results.

But on Saturday, Ledama appeared to have softened his stance on the outcome of the elections and called on Kenyans to exercise sobriety regardless of the court outcome.

“Whatever happens on Monday, life must go on,” Ledama said in a tweet on Saturday.

Following the courts decision, Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua will be sworn into office on September 13, 2022.

The Constitution stipulates that upon the election of the holder of the office of President, the winner will be sworn into office on the first Tuesday after seven days of the declaration of the winner.
