Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Murang’a senator candidate Peter Kagwanja has said some leaders were coerced to be in Azimio.

Speaking on KTN News, Kagwanja said most of them were in the coalition because they were not ready to be in the opposition, as they were almost sure they would win.

“I was with Muturi but my wife is in the cabinet and I did not want to break my family because of joining the opposition,” he said.

Kagwanja said President-elect William Ruto’s words were true as some did not have the freedom of choice on where they wanted to belong.

“I’m just clarifying it is true and for different reasons there were others and I do not want to get to the extent that people were coerced by systems and whatever, but I don’t think there was the freedom of choice as we would have it,” he said.

Ruto on Monday claimed that there are leaders in Azimio who were forced to be members of the coalition.

He was answering a question on the move to ‘sign’ new parties into the coalition.

Most of the parties he signed into his coalition were affiliated with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, led by Raila Odinga.

“Many of them were told if you don’t join Azimio, this court case will be brought to you and many other threats,” he said.

He said those who would wish to work with him cannot be blocked because Kenya is a democratic country.
