Africa-Press – Kenya. Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated President-elect William Ruto on his win.
He pointed out that China and Kenya enjoy a time-honoured friendship, and that their cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results in recent years.
Noting that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Kenya relations, Xi on Wednesday said he is willing to make joint efforts with Ruto to push forward the development of China-Kenya comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, so as to benefit the two countries and people.
Ruto awaits swearing-in on September 13 to become Kenya’s fifth president.
Kenya and China’s relationship has been of mutual benefit, especially on project matters.
Last year, Kenya led the world in completing China-funded mega projects ahead of schedule under Beijing’s global infrastructure development strategy, findings of a new study by a top US research university suggest.
The report established five projects in the country that were done ahead of the deadline between 2013 and 2017, putting the country top amongst countries which have benefited from China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
