Africa-Press – Kenya. Chief of General staff of the Kenya Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi has applauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s efforts in streamlining the military.
In his tribute to the outgoing president, Kibochi said Uhuru’s memories will be left with the military.
“As you retire we’ll be left with fond memories of your trust and confidence in the Kenya Defence Forces. You have left behind one of the finest military institutions on the continent,” he said.
Uhuru on several occasions confessed his love affair with the military and urged Kenyans to emulate their discipline and integrity.
Last year, he said the military men and women had the requisite discipline which should be emulated by all.
He said they had acquitted themselves well on all the assignments, including the rehabilitation of Kisumu port, restoring order in Nairobi and rehabilitation of the old railway network.
Among the constitutional powers, a president enjoys as per Chapter 9 article 132 of the Constitution, is nomination with approval of the national assembly appointment and dismissal of key officials within his government.
Uhuru has appointed military men and National Intelligent Service persons to head crucial dockets and commissions within his government.
Some of the appointments include Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna who is the government’s spokesperson.
Nicodemus Musyoki Ndalana former National Intelligence Service assistant director in charge of border control was appointed as the regional commander for the North Eastern region.
Lieutenant General Mohammad Badi was been appointed by the president to head the Nairobi Metropolitan Service.
He had been in the Kenya Air Force for several years serving in high-ranking positions.
