Africa-Press – Kenya. Tourism CS Najib Balala has said he is ready to work with President-elect William Ruto if he is appointed to continue serving in the ministry.
Balala tactically presented the job request to Ruto, pointing out that he was ready to continue with the work he had started.
“I am humbled, and I thank President Kenyatta for giving me the chance to serve the nation. I welcome President Ruto and I am ready to serve in his government whenever it is necessary,” he said.
Balala added that during his tenure at the ministry, new reforms were started, which can be concluded under Ruto’s governance.
“I know by Tuesday we will cease being ministers because Uhuru’s government will cease on Tuesday and Ruto’s government will start and that is the time when we might be called to stay until the new appointees take over or we will be told to go home and wait to hand over,” he added.
He spoke while releasing the Tourism Sector Performance Report for January to August 2022.
Balala said he handed in his handover report to the outgoing President on August 2.
He said the ministry has seen progress since the Covid 19 ban was lifted.
“From January to August 2022, the country has received 924,812 international visitors compared to 369,738 during the same period in 2021,” he said.
He added that earnings grew to Sh167 billion in 2022, compared to Sh 83 billion during the same period in 2021.
