Africa-Press – Kenya. Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has restructured his county executive committee members to have six instead of 10 after MCAs rejected seven she had nominated.
The MCAs only passed three out of the ten proposed county executive committee members.
Mwangaza appointed her deputy Joseph M’ithinkia as health executive.
The Meru governor also forwarded two of the nominees rejected by the assembly to the County Public Service Board.
George Gikunda, whom Mwangaza had proposed as health executive, will be her political advisor and Kiambi Athiru, whom she had proposed as water executive, will be her advisor on water and agriculture.
Finance executive Monica Kathiori will also be in charge of lands and physical planning. Legal executive Dickson Munene will also be in charge of agriculture and livestock development, while education executive Joseph Ithana will also handle water and environment.
Mwangaza had proposed 10 members to the county executive committee. They included Gikunda Mungania (health), Kiambi Atheru (water), Karimi Njeru (trade), Monica Kathiori (finace), Casty Micheni (youth), Dickson Munene (legal), Joseph Ithana (education), James Murungi (roads),Japheth Ndumba (lands) .
The Meru county assembly on Tuesday only passed three: Joseph Ithana (education), Monica Kathiori (finance) and Dickson Munene (legal)
The three county executive committee members proposed by Kawira have taken oath of office.
She said the three will each handle three other dockets in acting capacity until other executives are approved by the assembly.
“If they were looking to have the lack of quorum let them forget it. I will cut the county executives from ten to six,” Mwangaza said.
She spoke in her office in Meru on Wednesday.
Meru assembly speaker Ayub Bundi said Mwangaza has will have to change the County Integrated Development Plan.
