Africa-Press – Kenya. A man accused of disappearing with an envelope containing some 5,000 USD (Sh608,000) has been charged with theft.

Jared Odhiambo was charged before Kibera chief magistrate Ann Mwangi where he denied the charges.

He is said to have committed the offence on November 3 at the Bank of Baroda head office long Mithithi road in Westlands subcounty within Nairobi.

Odhiambo stole the property of Winston Shitsukane, which he had bought from the bank at the cost of Sh608,000.

The money was to be dropped at city restaurant by the accused person so that the complainant could pick them up.

Unfortunately the accused person allegedly went missing with the cash and his phone went offline.

He was later traced, arrested and arraigned in court for the offence of stealing contrary to section 281 of the penal code.

The accused through his defence counsel pleaded for a lenient bond terms.

He was released on Sh500,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000.

The court directed that the matter be mentioned on November 21 for pre-trial.

It further directed that the accused person be supplied with witness statements and documentary evidence that the prosecution intends to rely on during the entire case.
