Africa-Press – Kenya. The Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders has said they will work with President William Ruto’s government.
The elders also said they will support Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the new Mt Kenya kingpin.
They welcomed remarked by Gachagua during a funeral in Tharaka Nithi that Ruto’s administration will not revenge against public officers including ex-DCI boss George Kinoti.
Josphat Murangiri, the council secretary general in charge of operations, said that Gachagua’s affirmation against vengeance has drawn them into supporting Kenya Kwanza.
“We can see he(Ruto) has decided to work with all Kenyans. He has demonstrated that he is a true Christian who is ready to forgive and forget,” Murangiri said.
Murangiri confirmed that Njuri Ncheke was worried that President Ruto would pursue his critics and detractors after winning the presidency.
“We were really afraid but the president borrowed a leaf from the late president Jomo Kenyatta who decided to forgive all those who were loyal to the colonial administration,”Murangiri said.
He said that after independence, the Mau Mau order was that all those who collaborated with the colonial government were to be hanged, but founding President Jomo Kenyatta forgave them.
“After independence, Kenyatta stood up and asked Kenyans to forget the past and build their country and those who were loyal to the colonial government escaped the hangman’s noose,” he said.
“I want to thank the president for his decision to forget the past and allow national healing, we are happy for you(president) and we shall support your administration.”
Gachagua had while attending a funeral in Tharaka Nithi affirmed that the Ruto administration was not after pursuing anyone who persecuted them during retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.
“We are not after anyone, we are Christians, we have no business pursuing anyone including that one(Kinoti), tell him to relax and do his things, he can even look after his cattle,” Gachagua said.
“They thought that we will go after those who opposed and persecuted us, we will not, we have forgiven them.”
Gachagua had previously claimed that Kinoti, then serving as the Director of Criminal Investigations, aggressively pursued a political agenda using the criminal justice system.
The Nchuri Ncheke said Gachagua has demonstrated that he is ready to work with all leaders and united the Mt Kenya region.
