Africa-Press – Kenya. Fifa has appointed Kenyan referee Mary Njoroge to officiate the Women’s World Cup Play-off, 2023, in New Zealand.
She has been selected amongst 29 others across the world.
This is not the first time she has been selected for the role. She officiated the Fifa Women’s World Cup in France from June 7-July 7, 2019.
Njoroge said the timing for her selection is perfect and came at a better time.
“This is God. We needed something to give us hope after a very difficult period in our refereeing career and this is it,” she said.
She joins Peter Kamaku in the international assignment. Kamaku was picked to officiate at Africa Nations Championship (Chan) in Algeria on December 6.
Their appointment came after Kenya were left out in international football assignments for more than a year following Fifa ban.
