Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Pipeline maintained their perfect run this season, beating the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in straight sets in the final leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation women’s league at Koitalel Arap Samoei University, Nandi County.
The oil merchants scalped their opponents in sets of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-19 to register their fifth straight win.
The Paul Gitau-led Pipeline top the league with a maximum of 15 points from five matches and are assured of a playoff slot.
Reigning African Club champions KCB prevailed 3-2 in a five-set thriller against defending league champions Kenya Prisons. The bankers won the first set 25-17.
The Wardresses then restored parity by claiming the second set 25-20 and made it 2-1 with a third win of 25-22. KCB drew back to level terms, winning the fourth set 25-17 before silencing Prisons in the decider 15-11.
Prisons have won the past three editions of the league and are missing five players because of family commitments.
Kenya Army and Kenya Defence Forces earned walkover points after their opponents Vihiga County and Nairobi Prisons failed to show up. Elsewhere, the first leg of the 2022-23 season for the men’s league began in earnest.
Kenya Defense Forces came from behind to annihilate Equity 3-1 at the same venue. Equity bagged the first set 25-20 but the relentless soldiers recovered from the setback to win the subsequent sets 25-21, 35-33, 25-15.
Former champions Kenya Prisons made light work of Administration Police Kenya in straight sets. The warders disarmed AP in sets of 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 to mark a dream start to the new season.
In another match, Trail Blazers outclassed Nyanza Prisons in straight sets of 25-12, 25-19, 25-14. Blazers who have lost three key players oozed class and they hope to once again book a playoff slot after finishing third in their maiden appearance last season.
In the meantime, the second edition of the Heroes tournament is set for Saturday and Sunday as league teams are expected to line up as part of a quality field.
