Africa-Press – Kenya. Boca Junior FC are the inaugural AFOBE10 Super Cup champions after beating Kamolo FC 2-0 in the final match played at Kamolo RC Primary School grounds.
The one-day event, which featured four teams was sponsored by 2020-2021 season branch league top scorer, Eugene Okello Omudek popularly known as AFOBE10.
Boca Junior which dominated the match, officiated by Jonathan Odhiambo, netted their first goal in the 27th minute through Joseph Wanyama to take a 1-0 half time lead. Festus Okiring added the second in the 47th minute to seal the victory.
In the semifinals, hosts Kamolo beat Kocholia 1-0 with Collins Khisa netting scoring the winner in the 11th minute following a pass from Bill Osiya.
Ulinzi Stars players Wanyama and Okiring were star attraction leading Boca Juniors to a 2-0 victory over Busia Ajax in the other semifinal.
Wanyama headed Boca Juniors’ first goal in the 32nd minute following Okiring’s sublime corner kick. Wanyama then netted the winner in the 92nd minute following another of Okiring’s assist.
Okiring has resumed training with Ulinzi Stars after the expiry of his three-year ban over alleged match-fixing. Another Ulinzi player who featured in the match was Meshack ‘Shaka’ Emuria.
Boca Juniors FC captain Arsene Wenger said: “The game was enjoyable and we deserved to win.”
Goalkeeper Daniel Omuse, of Premier League side Nzoia Sugar, thanked Okello for becoming the first person in the area to sponsor a tournament which has helped nurture talent in the region.
“Eugene is still young but very foresighted. I grew with him in the academy and at Malaba Giants,” he said.
Kamolo captain, Oscar Omusugu said they failed to utilise their chances and were punished for it. He said they will now focus on the league matches.
“We shall strive to clinch the branch league title whose season starts on January 7, 2023,” he said.
